Taking advantage of Google for local searches
If you operate or sell on a local basis, Google has a facility to help you.
It’s possible (in fact desirable!) for any business to add an entry via Google places. This means that it might appear on a map displayed on the page in a Google search should some one type in a search query for you product or service and include your village/town/city/county. It will appear for sure if someone types this kind of search whilst in Google maps.
If you search for ‘web design Liskeard’ you’ll see a map similar to that shown on the right. On the first page it lists the first 10 businesses that meet the local criteria. For larger towns and cities or more general business types there may be several pages of results.

Once registered, a business owner/manager adds the location, contact details and all relevant information about the business. This is displayed when anyone clicks on the marker on the map for your business.
Sign up for Google Places at the Google Places page.
We recommend all our clients who operate or sell locally to create such an entry and offer our services to all businesses. If you’d like our help with this, please call or e-mail us.
