Keeping your web site up-to-date
When did you last take a good look at your web site and review the content?
Many people are too busy running their business that once a web site has been completed it falls down the list of priorities. Think about the potential customers who might be looking at your site, you need to impress and draw them in. If there is nothing very recent on the site or there is information which is clearly out of date, then they are likely to go elsewhere to a site that is better maintained or has greater initial impact.
A web site is a major marketing tool and let’s face it in the current economic climate you need to make your business stand out from the crowd. Also, search engines e.g. Google, will rank a site more highly when the content is changed regularly. There are various tools available to analyse the visitors to your site – how they arrived at your site whether by searching, directly by typing in the web address or referred from another site, which page they arrived at and lots more. You can then apply the information from these statistics to refine the content on your site. We will be looking more closely at web statistics and search engine rankings in a future newsletter.
Your web designer should be able to provide some ideas about improving your site, adding statistics if you do not have access to these and tuning it for search engines. Use all means to get it working better for your business. If you are looking to redesign your site and you want to manage your own content changes there are different ways to enable this (see article below for more on this).
There are benefits to keeping your site up to date as you know you can safely refer customers to the web site which has the latest product range, prices etc. included, in turn this should save both time and money.
Your web site is an asset and a good marketing tool – don’t waste it. Make sure you review the performance, look and content regularly.
