Microsites - micro web sites designed for a specific purpose

All professional businesses have a main web site that they use to promote their company and perhaps even to generate business and income directly. The design supports the general company look & ethos and the site centres on the company and what it provides.

Sometimes business have a specific on-line marketing need that's either not covered by the main web site or doesn't sit well within it. Perhaps it needs a different design, a direct web address or needs to be handled differently. That's where microsites come in.

The idea of a microsite is that it fulfils a specific purpose. This could be a competition, a special offer, an announcement, a new service, an offshoot product or service (under a different name) or a host of other purposes. It can have it's own design or look like the main web site. It has a direct web address which normally relates to the purpose (making it easier to remember) - like www.greatmicrowebsites.co.uk.

It can be treated as totally separate from the main company web site(s) and designed, developed and hosted by a different company. Obviously it can have links to it from the main company web site (and elsewhere) and links to other web sites, including the main company site.

These sites are cheaper than a full web site. Costs start from a few hundred pounds for one page and rise according to the number of pages in it and the functionality they need to deliver.
